Medical devices called sutures are used to close wounds. Depending on the extent of the injury, a physician will repair a wound or laceration using the proper suture technique and material.
There are many different sizes and shapes of suturing materials. The optimum material for the injury or procedure site will be chosen by your physician.
Types of Sutures
Nylon Sutures :- Often used to seal skin wounds, nylon is a non-absorbable, unidirectional suture. It is advantageous in contaminated tissues because of its high flexibility, low capillarity, and ability to breakdown into antimicrobial chemicals. However, it has a big memory, weak knot security, and poor handling features.
Silk Sutures :-
Over the past century, silk has surpassed collagen as the most often used natural suture in the medical industry. Silk is an organic, non-absorbable suture material that has been widely utilized for wound closure. This indicates that despite being a protein that is alien to mammals, silk has a high degree of biological compatibility.
